History

With more than 200 years of paint making history, Sissons Paints was founded by the Sissons Brothers in Hull, England in 1803. In 1910, SISSONS’ well-known trademark of “THE MEN AND PLANK” was introduced to the market and is still in use all over the world up till today. 1959 marks a significant year for Malaysia as that was the year SISSONS arrived on the Malaysian shore through Sissons Paints (East) Sdn Bhd. The Sissons family overlooked the founding company until 1964 when it was bought over by Reckitt and Colman. Subsequently, in 1968, the Donald Macpherson Group in the UK took over.

When the Tikkurila Oy Group of Companies in Finland acquired the Macpherson Group in 1984, SISSONS became associated with Finland’s largest paint Manufacturer, having its affiliations internationally both in Finland and the UK as well as the Netherlands, Sweden and Trinidad. The main holding company of Tikkurila Oy and Sissons Paints (EAST) Sdn Bhd, KEMIRA OY, one of Finland’s largest chemical company that was incorporated in 1920, rebranded the company to Kemira Sissons Paints Sdn Bhd.

Kemira Sissons Paints Sdn Bhd continued to grow the SISSONS brand all over Malaysia and soon became one of the leading paint brand and manufacturer in Malaysia. In 1992, Boustead Holdings Berhad, one of the largest conglomerates in Malaysia acquired Kemira Sissons Paints Sdn Bhd. As a result of this and to reflect a common identity as well as to project an international corporate image, Boustead was incorporated into the name to form Boustead Sissons Paints Sdn Bhd in July 1993.

SISSONS entered a new chapter in December 2017 when True Colour Painting Solutions Sdn Bhd acquired all the trademarks and assets related to the SISSONS branding. With this acquisition, SISSONS will continue to grow and strengthen its market position by providing high quality paint product at affordable pricing backed by timely sales services. The reach of SISSONS has now spanned to Myanmar, Brunei, Hong Kong and many more and we hope to continue this market with you!
