D’Primer
Sissons Alkali Resisting D’Primer is a high quality water-based primer possessing good build, adhesion and coverage, especially on surfaces where alkalinity is likely to cause defects to the subsequent finishing coats over time, such as lime plaster, asbestos cement, concrete or the like.
Surface
Adequate surface preparation should be carried out before application. All loose, flaking, chalking or friable materials should be removed. Make good any defects and ensure that the substrate is clean and free from contaminants, such as oil, grease, grime and fungal growth.
For new or re-conditioned surfaces, ensure that the substrate is sufficiently dry (below 16% moisture) prior to paint application.
New and Re-conditioned Surface
Primer | 1 coat of Sissons Alkali Resisting D’Primer |
External Finish | 2 coats of Sissons All Weather Acrylic Paint |
Internal Finish | 2 coats of Sissons Silk Glo or Sissons Super Siscolux |
If the substrate is too porous or too rough, an extra coat of Sissons Alkali Resisting D’Primer is recommended.
Coverage
Theoretical Coverage | 13.5 square meters per litre per coat |
Expected Practical Coverage Based on 25% Loss Factor |
10.1 square meters per litre per coat |
Actual spreading rate will vary due to factors such as method and condition of application e.g. surface profile or roughness.
Application Techniques
Brush or Roller. Application by spray is not recommended due poorer penetration than that attained by brush or roller.
Thinning
Brush / Roller |
Ready for use as supplied. A maximum dilution of 5% water by volume is allowable when necessary to assist application. However, diluting above this ratio is likely to compromise the product’s performance and durability. |
Drying Time
Touch Dry | ½ hour |
Hard Dry | 1½ hours |
Recoating Time | After 2 hours |
Cleaning Up
Clean all equipment with clean water immediately after use.
